What is Celpe-Bras?
Celpe-Bras is the exam that enables the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners. It was developed and granted by the Ministry of Education (MEC), is applied in Brazil and in other countries with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), is the only certificate of proficiency in Portuguese as a Foreign Language officially recognized by Brazilian government.. Internationally, it´s accepted in companies and educational institutions as a proof of competence in the Portuguese language and in Brazil it´s required by universities for admission to undergraduate courses and postgraduate programs, as well as for validation of certificate of foreign professionals who intend to work in the country. Proficiency Levels
No certification 0 to 1,99
If the level of proficiency is less than 1.99, the participant does not receive certification.
Intermediate Level 2 to 2,75
Is given to the participant that obtain proficiency level between 2 and 2.75, which represents partial operational domain of the Portuguese Language. Ability to understand and produce oral and written texts on limited subjects, in known contexts and everyday situations, and at this level, inadequacies and interferences of the mother tongue and / or other Foreign Language (s) in unknown situations, but not enough to compromise communication.
Upper Intermediate Level 2,76 to 3,50
Is given to the participant that obtain the level of proficiency between 2.76 and 3.50, which means that fulfills the characteristics described in the Intermediate level, with the difference that, at this level, the inadequacies and interferences of the mother tongue and / or of other Foreign Language (s) in pronunciation and writing should be less frequent than at that level.
Advanced Level 3,51 to 4,25
Is given to the participant that obtain a level of proficiency between 3.51 and 4.25, which demonstrates a broad operational domain of the Portuguese Language, can understand and produce oral and written texts on varied subjects in known and unknown contexts, being allowed, at this level, occasional inadequacies in communication, especially in unfamiliar contexts, not enough, however, to compromise the communication.
Upper Advanced Level 4,26 to 5
Is given to the participant that obtain a proficiency level of 4.26 to 5 and meets all the requirements of the advanced level, but with less frequent written and oral production inadequacies than that level.
